Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ‘violating’ election move caused ‘uproar at Palace’

With the exception of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, royals typically stay out of politics.

The Sussexes issued a statement in the run-up to Tuesday’s crucial US presidential election, urging voters to ensure they are registered to cast ballots for both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. The couple did not endorse either candidate because the statement failed to demonstrate support for either candidate in the White House race. And this may be because Harry and Meghan reportedly reacted with one daring move during the previous presidential election.

The couple made an appearance in a video message in September 2020, shortly after they moved to the US, and they called on Americans to “vote against hate speech.”

Harry also explained that he would not be able to cast his ballot and that he had never cast as a member of the Royal Family in the UK in the video that was broadcast as part of Time 100 magazine’s annual list of the top 100 most powerful people. Working royals in the UK typically abstain from making political commentary or casting ballots.

And while not specifically mentioning anyone by name, the remarks were perceived as mentioning Mr. Trump and thus as an endorsement of Mr. Biden, with some calling it a violation of the Sandringham Summit agreement, which was written up when the couple resigned from their royal duties in 2020. Later Mr Trump spoke out saying he was “no fan” of Meghan.

The Royal Family was “wringing their hands,” royal aides claimed at the time to The Sunday Times, adding that the remarks violated the pledge. “The feeling is it’s a violation of the agreement, ‘ one source said.

Meghan may have a future in politics, according to rumors that have been floating in history. She campaigned for paid parental leave while cold-calling US senators in 2021. According to reports, the Duchess allegedly called senators Susan Collins and Shelley Moore Capito while using a secret number to say, “This is Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.”

Additionally, Meghan and Gloria Steinem collaborated to call on Americans to cast ballots during the most recent US election campaign. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Gloria said:” She came home to vote. We sat down at the table where I am right now and we cold-called voters, which is what she came to see as well. She added that ” Meghan was “so excited” to see Kamala Harris running for vice president.

The Sussexes reportedly will continue to be politically neutral during this campaign, according to a report from The Telegraph back in September. Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation explained how its staff “comed together for a meaningful volunteer activity to support and empower our communities” as it marked National Voter Registration Day in a post on its website.

It added:” Using Vote Forward’s impactful letter-writing tool, our team wrote personalized letters encouraging unregistered voters to take a crucial step: registering to vote. “It urged people to use their vote, adding:” Voting is not just a right, it’s a fundamental way to influence the fate of our communities.

“At The Archewell Foundation, we recognize that civic engagement, no matter one’s political party, is at the heart of a more just and equitable world. By participating in initiatives like this, we want to spread the message that every voice counts. Together, let’s make sure every eligible voter is informed and empowered to participate in shaping America’s future”.
