After a strong closing time trial, Team UAE rider Joao Almeida won the Tour de Suisse.

Almeida, from Portugal, defeated fourth-placed Austrian Felix Gall by one minute and forty seconds.

After the final 10.1 km uphill time trial, Almeida remarked, “I think I started too fast.”

In the beginning, I overpaced. I ultimately hoped to have enough gas to push through the final kilometer, but it was ultimately not necessary.

You should never give up, they say. You need to keep trying even when things occasionally go wrong and nothing is perfect.

“We kept trying, and we succeeded.”

Almeida’s 33-second lead over Vauquelin’s on Saturday strengthened his stage victory.

Almeida won the overall standings by one minute and seven seconds over Vauquelin in a second and a half on Sunday thanks to another impressive performance.

The 26-year-old, who lost the previous year’s race by 22 seconds, will now work to defend his Tour de France title against team-mate Tadej Pogacar.

Almeida stated, “I’ll have time to enjoy this victory and be prepared for the Tour de France.”

“I’ll back Tadej Pogacar there and hope that there are more great victories.”
