Hashim Abioye, the head of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), claims that Osun State Police have blocked the city’s headquarters in Osogbo.
Abioye alleged that the police also detained election officials and prevented journalists from covering the local government election in a video posted on the OSSIEC X handle.
He claims that several OSSIEC officials were detained on Saturday while they were walking to polling stations.
Our correspondent’s attempts to contact Abioye for more information turned out to be unsuccessful because his phone line was off.

The OSSIEC chair, in the post, assured voters that materials had been deployed to affected areas.
“So far so good, the reports are positive, and the police’s false alarm has been dissipated,” the statement reads. Everywhere is calm”, Abioye said.
We only reported witnessing police arresting our officials in some of the places where materials are supposed to have arrived for voters to cast their ballots.
Because there isn’t a court order that required the arrest of our officials, “I don’t know on whose order.”
“As it stands, we have already deployed materials to those units because there is enough on the ground.”
We have enough, but the police sealed our office, which was not appropriate, so I want to apologize for the inadequacy of the tags and jackets.

Abioye made the comments after the state government called for the local government election to be postponed due to a security threat.
The Police said it received reliable information that suggested there might be violence and significant security threats should the planned elections occur, according to a statement from its Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Friday.
According to the police, reports gathered from joint intelligence gatherings revealed that various organizations, including political parties, are organising to cause unrest, stifle public order, and stifle democratic order.
However, the Osun State government acknowledged the police’s advice but insisted on going on with the election.
