Jake Epelle, the chief executive of TAF Africa, has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates’ emergence for the upcoming Rivers State local government elections as a deliberate attempt to deceive the state’s citizens.
“This emergence was simply orchestrated,” he said. They only had access to them right now because they had submerged or hidden them. And the PDP and APC candidates’ combinations “resemble a concoction that will be served to the innocent people of Rivers State,” Epelle said on Thursday.
He claimed that the electoral process was ineffective because the candidates “know what they are doing” and “try to embellish their actions to make themselves appear like peaceful Jews.”

Don’t trust the PDP people because they mix up to cover their tracks. They are attempting to make it look good in every way. A bad apple won’t look good on its own. Epelle stated in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily that it won’t happen.
When asked what he thought of the list of candidates for the Rivers council election, Epelle responded, “They are trying to make a bad process and a bad product look good.” Our resources are at play here. We have only the right to squander resources here. Our democracy is at play.
You’ll find a situation in which those who have followed the instructions of this administration, those who have been loyal to the FCT minister, and those who have been held to the rules of this administration, were compensated and rewarded with that position despite having neither the intellectual nor moral authority to run. They do not want to take the helm of the country; rather, they want to control themselves.
He also urged former local government officials to release their records.
Epelle also expressed disapproval of the electoral process’ legal and democratic foundations.
Everything about this election failed the morality, legality, and common sense tests. He continued, “I have very little faith in the judiciary itself and the judicial processes.”
However, he advised river dwellers to be restrained.
He declared, “This is not the time to be in any way unlawful.” If that is the case, let’s trust divine intervention. However, this election was completely unsuccessful. I have no idea or faith in how inclusive this election will be.
Rivers LG Polls
The 2025 local government elections will take place on August 30 according to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
The state of emergency, which had earlier been declared, reportedly caused the decision to postpone the election, according to RSIEC Chairman Michael Odey.
He noted that changing the electoral calendar in light of the new circumstances became necessary.
The updated schedule includes new primary elections for the parties, candidate screening, campaign periods, and main council elections.
At the unveiling, party leaders, electoral observers, and representatives of the media were present to review and discuss the updated guidelines.
Participating political parties are expected to hold primaries between July 31 and August 3, 2025, and to announce their candidates’ names on August 3 and 4, 2025 in accordance with the revised guidelines.
Electioneering would begin on August 12, 2025, according to RESIEC.
On Saturday, August 16, 2025, it stated that ad-hoc staff would be hired for the elections.
The candidate list will be available on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, according to the organization.
