The Ikeja cantonment was given the new name Taoreed Lagbaja, the late Chief of Army Staff (CAOS).

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, said the decision was in recognition of Lagbaja’s bravery and dedication to Nigeria.

The former chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, is the subject of the renaming, according to Sanwo-Olu, who expressed his gratitude, respect, and gratitude for the bravery and sacrifices of one of Nigeria’s exceptional military officers.

We pay tribute to a leader who lived in the brave, discipline, and patriotism by naming it Lieutenant General Lagbaja.

His distinguished service to the Nigerian Army over the course of three decades, particularly in counterinsurgency, internal security, and peacekeeping missions, merits recognition.

“I give this initiative my apologies to the Nigerian Army and the Defense Ministry. It instills a culture of honoring and celebrating our heroes, and it assures all patriots that their sacrifices will always be acknowledged.

Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff, praised his predecessor’s advancements while serving as the commander of the 9 brigade.

Oluyede claimed that Lagbaja should be most aptly preserved as a cantonment.

Lagbaja, who was ill, served as the chief of army staff from June 19 to November 5, 2024. He passed away.

Lieutenant-General Faruk Yahaya will succeed him, according to President Bola Tinubu. During his 17-month tenure, Lagbaja left behind a legacy of professionalism and sacrifice.

On February 28, 2025, the Ikeja cantonment was renamed in honor of the late Chief of Army Staff (CAOS), Taoreed Lagbaja in Lagos. The Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other top military officials and dignitaries attended the renaming of the cantonment.
