The team was returning to Ebonyi when the accident occurred after Kwara United won the Federation Cup final on Saturday in Lagos.  ,
The Ebonyi-based club claimed there were no fatalities or injuries in the collision in a statement posted on their official Facebook page.  ,

No harm or life was lost, to God be the glory. One of our vehicles (official’s bus) failed to brake along the Ondo Express Highway and hit a moving truck at the back as we were returning from Lagos today (29/6/2025), according to the club. “We are all safe and sound, thank God.” God be glorified “! “!

Some minor damage to the bus was apparent in photos taken on the club’s social media page.
About a month prior to the accident, 21 Kano State athletes died while returning from the Ogun State National Sports Festival.
