Footballing legend Paul Gascoigne has revealed that he is incredibly sorry to his ex-wife Sheryl for the “pain” he caused her throughout their marriage.
Paul Gascoigne’s ex-wife Sheryl will always be sobbing for the pain he caused her. Sheryl and Paul, 58, a 58-year-old football legend, got married in 1996, but the couple had a turbulent relationship.
During the relationship, Gazza allegedly suffered from alcoholism and mental health issues, which were the source of the relationship’s physical and emotional abuse. Regan and Pauline Weid, the couple’s son, were born the same year they tied the knot, but they later separated after just two years.
Although Paul acknowledges that he will always have regrets, their past is now completely forgotten. Paul apologizes to Sheryl in a new interview after opening up about one night.
He declared, “I will never regret the pain I caused her.” Sheryl “talks him around” on the incident of 1998 when he ended up lying on the edge of a Stevenage railroad platform after drinking alcohol.
Later, Paul was placed on a Hampshire hospital suicide watch. He tells The Sunday Times that despite his life changing drastically from what it is now, he wouldn’t alter anything. He claimed that it was a “shame” because “I’ve been through so much that nothing can faze us.” He said, “I still have feelings, but nothing bothers us.”
And while Paul had a strained relationship with his son Regan, that is also firmly in the past, and he couldn’t help but gush over his lad. He said: “He’s an unbelievable dancer, and when he went on Dancing on Ice (2022), I knew he was going to win; he’s amazing.” Indeed, Regan did win the show with Karina Manta.
Paul has previously spoken about the incident that occurred when he headbutted and shoved Sheryl into a hotel in Perthshire in 1996 when he left his ex-wife “black and blue” and drove her away. Gazza made reference to the incident in his memoir, which was published by Reach Sport.
He wrote, “Just three months into our marriage, in October 1996, the unrest between us turned into a terrible incident that I will never forget.” The Gleneagles Hotel, close to Perth, was where we took a break with the kids.
While we were in the restaurant, Sheryl and I started arguing over something stupid. I followed her there and pressed my head against hers as she went upstairs to the room. I pushed her away from me instinctively, causing her to fall to the ground.
“‘ F*** off’, I told her. She sprang into her hand as she landed and cried in agony. There was nothing I could do or say after she calmed down, and I knew I had truly screwed up. There were images of Sheryl outside the hotel with her arm in a sling a few days later, and the headline read “GAZZA BEATS SHERYL BLACK AND BLUE.”
It’s only fair to point out that Sheryl’s memory of the events is vastly different from mine. I’m sure many people will think I fully deserved what transpired next, and I’ll always be sorry for the pain I caused Sheryl that night.
Gazza stated in the Mirror that it is impossible to explain why he is unable to stop drinking because he has previously spent time in rehab. Jimmy Greaves has stopped drinking, but he meant to say that. I’m not George Best or Jimmy Greaves. “I don’t drink because I detest my parents or the general public,” I say. That is not the point. I do it because I want to. It might be regrettable for me. But I don’t think about tomorrow or yesterday. I simply reflect on and cherish today.
