Pakistan end home Champions Trophy without win after Rawalpindi washout

In their final group-stage match in Rawalpindi, the Pakistan-Bangladesh game was canceled due to the rain.

Due to persistent rain, the square was covered throughout the day on Thursday, and the umpires finally decided to end the game at 3: 30pm, one and a half hours before the game’s scheduled start.

Both teams had already lost to India and New Zealand, and both had to wait until the washout, which disappointed both, especially Pakistan, who were the hosts and defending champions.

New Zealand, who beat Pakistan by 60 runs in the opening match, sealed their playoff spot with a five-wicket win over Bangladesh on Monday at Rawalpindi, which was awarded three Champions Trophy matches.

India beat&nbsp, Bangladesh and Pakistan&nbsp, in Dubai to qualify for the semifinal.

Following the T20 World Cup last year and the 50-over ODI World Cup in 2023, Pakistan has not advanced beyond the first round in three consecutive ICC tournaments.

“It’s been shocking for us that we haven’t played well in ICC tournaments”, Pakistan assistant coach Azhar Mahmood said.

As the team played 308 dot balls in the final games against India and New Zealand, Mahmood believed that the team’s injuries to opening batters Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub affected their play.
