Ogun Govt, Gbenga Daniel Renew Face-Off Over Road Reconstruction

The senator representing the Ogun East Senatorial district, Gbenga Daniel, has yet to resign due to the state ministry of works and infrastructure’s alleged failure to “stop work” on a road infrastructure that the senator allegedly helped the state’s Sagamu region recover from.

Steve Oloyede, the senator’s media aide, claimed the move was motivated by politics.

The state government quickly responded to the report that it had stopped a federal road project in order to settle political disputes with the project’s facilitator, calling it an egregious falsehood.

The Ogun State government stated in a statement that the governor, Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, had requested that Minim and Tonye Nigeria Limited follow all legal instructions and obtain government approval because the road involved is a state road.

The state government requested permission from the contractor after learning about it, which was being repaired by Governor Abiodun, and provided a description of the work schedule that would allow the state government to remove the road from its schedule.

The state government requested from the “writers of the fake news” to release any material legally objectionable material accompanied by a letter from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Yusuf L. O., informing the contractor to stop operations because the State Government had not obtained the necessary authorization or approval prior to the start of the process.

No one can carry out any repair work on a road without getting the necessary permission, the statement read. As a result, a state government that wants to repair a federal road must first get the permission of the federal government.

“Nigerians will recall that the Ogun State Government was unable to carry out any repairs on federal roads, including the Abeokuta-Sango Ota road, for a long time due to Babatunde Fashola, the state’s then-Minister of Works, who had refused to grant the state’s request. The fake news’ creators made the claim that the Federal Government had approved the construction of an Ogun State highway in their total ignorance.

How can anyone compare asking a contractor to obtain the necessary approval before working on a state road to stopping the project because of alleged political hostility, if not for the outright mischief they committed on behalf of their drowning principal? Without getting the necessary approval, how can you work on a state road, or any road at all?

Hon. Hon. Hon. was a former federal lawmaker who was questioned by the statement on February 1, 2025. In addition to other projects, Adewunmi Onanuga requested permission to begin construction on four rural roads, including Sokanmade Road, Ewuga, Oko and Ada Road, Simawa, Ita Maro to Ilara Road, and Alhaja Ogunsanya Street, Irolu.
