It’s getting a little tense inside the Bake Off tent as host Noel Fielding’s recent health woes spark fears for his future on the Channel 4 show.

The Mighty Boosh star, 51, suddenly exited an Apple TV+ series mid-production last month, with The Great British Bake Off bosses fearing his mysteriously departure from the streaming giant’s comedy could become a recipe for disaster for their own show.

Last year saw Noel launch his own series on Apple TV+, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, with the historical comedy was renewed for a second season last July following rave reviews of the initial episodes. However, the entire series has been scrapped due to Noel stepping back due to health concerns over Christmas.

Now, ahead of filming the new series, Bake Off producers are wondering if Noel will be fit enough to return to the tent alongside Alison Hammond in a few month’s time.

“Time is of the essence because bosses need a degree of certainty about who will be fronting Bake Off. So much has to be put in place long before the cameras start rolling and producers are already geared up, ready to go,” a source has claimed.

The insider went on to tell the MailOnline that there’s “a lot riding” on Noel’s return given that Bake Off is Channel 4’s flagship show and one of the UK’s most-loved programmes. “All those involved understand this is a health matter, but contingencies have to be put in place,” they added.

Noel is yet to speak publicly about his health issues but remains active on social media. The comedian paid tribute to Denis Law over the weekend, following the Manchester United legend’s death, and shared a series of music clips on his Instagram Stories on Sunday night.

While Noel’s departure from the set of The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin was due to health concerns, not everyone is pleased about the second season being scrapped with just weeks of filming remaining. An insider previously revealed: “Noel has said that he can’t film anymore and so there was no choice but to stop. “

They continued, explaining that the decision wasn’t “taken lightly” and that it wouldn’t have come to the “extreme result” of a complete shutdown if all other options hadn’t been “exhausted. ” The source also noted: “People have been very concerned about Noel’s wellbeing and given him time to recover but there are also significant repercussions. “

Additionally, they mentioned that some individuals are “furious” about the turn of events. The Sun reported earlier this month that over 100 cast and crew members are contemplating legal action against the show’s producers after its sudden cancellation, leaving them jobless.

In a statement shared with the Mirror, Noel’s representative emphasized that the entertainer never meant for his withdrawal to have such severe outcomes. They stated: “This is a private and confidential matter regarding our client’s health. We are saddened by the decision to cease production but we cannot make any further comment on this matter. “
