Brendan Rodgers admits there hasn’t been “any conversation” about extending his stay at Celtic, but that he is “obviously very happy.”
The Northern Irishman has a contract until the end of the following season and was questioned about whether his side’s qualifying for the Champions League knockout play-off round would encourage him to stay after the summer of 2026.
“We’ve not really had any conversation around that”, said Rodgers.
Rodgers, who left Celtic midway through the 2018-19 campaign and made his return in the summer of 2023, has already won ten titles and is expected to win a domestic record tally in the current campaign.
Celtic were beaten in the Champions League play-off by Bayern Munich, who struck in the 94th minute for a 1-1 draw and snatch a 3-2 aggregate victory.
“Certainly, when I came back domestically, my record was OK and I knew to become better in Europe I needed a stronger squad”, he explained.
“The club have been fantastic in providing that,” the club said. We’ve demonstrated our ability to do so within the club’s budget. Hopefully, going forward, we can continue to push that way.
” We’ve set the standards for the next steps going forward. There is no justification for you to not advance to the last 16 or a quarter-final if we can perform as we did, which is obviously part of the plan going forward.
