NNPP Suspends Senator Kawu, Three Others Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities
Senator Kawu Sumaila, who represents the Kano South Senatorial district, has been suspended by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as a result of his alleged affiliation with the All-Progress Party’s (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Senator Kawu was suspended alongside three other party members—Ali Madakin Gini, Sani Abdullahi Rogo, and Kabiru Alhassan Rurum. The NNPP leadership in Kano State made the announcement on Sunday.
Hashimu Dungurawa, the chairman of the NNPP’s Kano State chapter, claimed that the suspended members had violated party principles by engaging in behavior that was contrary to the party’s ideology at a press conference in Kano.
These individuals were chosen to betray the party’s trust, according to Dungurawa, who was running for president under the NNPP platform. We have no choice but to take disciplinary action because of their actions in opposition to the principles and tenets of our party.

Senator Kawu’s alleged disloyalty was specifically denounced by Dungurawa, who pointed out that the NNPP had previously provided him and the others with complimentary tickets. He complained that they had sided with members of the opposition party despite this support.
The invitation to Senator Kawu’s daughter’s wedding and the commissioning of some of his projects in the Sumaila Local Government Area are even more shocking,” Kawu said. This demonstrates blatant lack of his loyalty, Dungurawa continued.
However, the NNPP chairman left room for reconciliation, stating that if the suspended members acknowledged their mistakes and sought forgiveness, the party might reconsider its decision.
We will consider reinstating them if they realize their mistakes and return to the party with sincere remorse, he said.
