Nigerian Ports Authority Introduces New Protocols for Truck Access to Ports

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has made significant changes to its truck entry procedures, aimed at reducing port entry fraud and infractions, and boosting port security and efficiency.

Beginning on February 3, 2025, port gates will no longer accept manual presentation of number plates and Minimum Safety Standards (MSS) stickers.

All trucks approaching the port must have their number plates riveted or fastened in accordance with regulatory requirements, according to a notice issued by Truck Transit Parks Limited on Tuesday, NPA’s technical partner for traffic management.

Trucks must also securely adhere the original MSS stickers to their windscreens as a prerequisite for port entry.

The NPA has mandated that these revised measures be immediately put into effect, focusing solely on the entry process using automated verification.

The notice states that “these changes are intended to eliminate entry infractions and address issues like identity theft and the unauthorised exchange of truck documents used to commit port entry fraud.”

On February 3, 2025, the revised protocol will go into effect completely.

All port stakeholders and truck operators are advised to follow strict guidelines because breaking them will result in severe sanctions.
