ExCLUSIVE: Nicola McLean claims Vogue Williams and Lisa Riley are getting a better ride for Kelly Brook despite the double standards she’s encountered in the jungle.

In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Nicola McLean, defends Kelly Brook over the double standards and why Vogue Williams and Lisa Riley are getting an easier ride in the jungle.

When Kelly Brook signed up for I’m A Celeb, she was looking forward to the experience changing her “whole outlook on life”. But sadly, the focus was on her appearance as she landed in Australia last month, with vile trolls suggesting she might have been going into the jungle to lose weight. One person quipped, “Must have booked extra seats on the plane.”

Kelly’s awful experience is all too familiar for former glamour model Nicola McLean, who was also trolled for her looks when she headed Down Under in 2008.

“My massive implants horrendously trolled me when I was in the jungle.” You can’t be a woman, asserts Nicola. She felt she had to explain why she doesn’t look the same as she did in her 20s and make reference to her size even before Kelly entered, which is disappointing.

Nicola, 44, has been open about suffering with eating disorders throughout her life, having battled bulimia from the age of 11 as well as anorexia and body dysmorphia. The mum of two has told fans she’s trying to remember she’s “more than a number” on the scales and, earlier this year, admitted she lied to get weight-loss jabs.

After receiving horrible messages about her weight following a string of TV appearances last year, Nicola found herself back in a dark place – forcing herself to lose weight, and booking in several cosmetic treatments.

“I put on a little weight last year because I only started eating normally,” says Nicola. “But I watched a horrible troll and went on TV.” She said, “She’s got so much fat.” That resulted in weight loss. I also went to get fillers, salmon sperm, and more Botox. Because I’m so self-conscious about my appearance, comments about my looks make me feel like a fool. When people point out the flaws and ask, “What’s happened to her?” I’m devastated because she appears to be a tank.

“People now claim that I look fantastic. However, no one knows how difficult it is for me to stay this large in order to make people accept me when I do my job.

Nicola says watching this year’s I’m A Celeb has made it all too apparent that there are different beauty standards for women dependent on age, and only some are deemed ‘aesthetically acceptable’.

“It’s as if beautiful women aren’t allowed to age. Ruby Wax avoids criticism of her body as she’s 72, but somehow Kelly is not allowed to look her 46 years,” she explains. “Vogue Williams and Myleene Klass are seen as aesthetically acceptable in the jungle. They’re both slim but not too skinny, and haven’t had lots of work done.

They won’t be as vicious as Kelly is. Since I have my boobs done, I am not seen in the same way as Vogue and Myleene because I am plastic.

Due to this, Nicola is steadfast in teaching the realities of realistic beauty standards to her two teenage boys, Rocky, 19, and Striker, 15, respectively. Never has she resisted sharing the work she has done with her children.

“Their mother had double G boobs,” they said. She says I would tell them I was getting Botox because I wanted them to know that wasn’t real from a young age. I never wanted them to reach that age and consider whether someone who doesn’t have massive boobs is improper.

Tom Williams, Nicola’s ex-football player, is concerned about her having more surgery, but Nicola’s husband supports her. Nicola states, “Tom has been through it all.” He advises me to ignore the trolls, and I am astounded when people make comments about me being a “s**t mum,” knowing that it is a lie.

“But I’m insecure about my looks and my weight. He just tells me to be careful because I’ve had three boob jobs. The last one went wrong, and now I’m terrified.”

Despite being subjected to cruel remark in the jungle, Nicola gained from it. She had the opportunity to embrace her natural beauty for the first time ever. Tom never saw me without makeup when I entered, she says. That insecurities plagued me. When we had to remove our makeup in the jungle, I sobbed. But I finally mastered accepting my face. It gave me the most amazing sense of confidence for a while.

Pamela Anderson has received praise for avoiding wearing makeup, according to Nicola. She said, “F*** this, I’m spinning this on the head and I’m going to reinvent myself.” She is amazing.
