Nearly half of Gaza war deaths reported in areas Israel called ‘safe’

As the military’s ground invasion, which was widely criticized, resulted in at least 91 Palestinian deaths on Saturday in ongoing Israeli attacks throughout the Gaza Strip, including at least 45 in Gaza City.

Israel was blamed by Gaza’s government media office for slandering the Palestinian people by threatening to evacuate the central and southern governorates while continuing to bomb those same areas.

In Gaza, relentless Israeli strikes have long caused hospitals to close down. The majority of doctors struggle to treat starving patients while the majority are operating in horrifying conditions, unable to provide even basic medical supplies like anaesthesia and antibiotics.

Due to the bombardment in the north, the few hospitals in central Gaza that are still operational have become overcrowded with patients and injured. Many people require urgent medical care that is unavailable.

The only specialized medical facility for children in the Strip, Al-Rantisi Paediatric Hospital, was attacked by Israeli forces on purpose, according to Dr. Khalil Digran, who works at Al-Aqsa Hospital.

Al-Shifa and al-Ahli Hospital, two of which are barely operational, are left standing in Gaza City and the north, according to Digran.

Israeli actions are already putting more pressure on the remaining health facilities in central and southern Gaza and threatening to completely halt their service.

Meanwhile, protests calling for a ceasefire on the global stage took place on Saturday in Liverpool, Germany, and elsewhere.

Hamas has claimed that it has not received the ceasefire plan for Gaza from US President Donald Trump, despite Trump’s repeated optimism about a deal being close this week.

Trump said, “It seems like we have a deal on Gaza,” in a statement to reporters on Friday. He gave no dates or details. Trump’s comments have not yet been addressed in the Israeli media.

The Palestinian organization “has not been presented with a plan,” according to a Hamas official who spoke to Al Jazeera on the condition of anonymity.

Trump will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, whose hard-right wing coalition opposes a ceasefire between the Gaza war and Hamas until it is completely destroyed.
