My Attitude Not To Keep Mute Landed Me In Jail – Obasanjo

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo admitted that his inaction led to his imprisonment in 1995 under the military junta of the late Chief of State, Gen. Sanni Abacha.

Obasanjo also made hints that he was seeking the presidency in 1999 in order to prevent Nigeria from disintegrating, and that he had already accepted that he had settled into agriculture after his 42-year military service.

At his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta over the weekend, Obasanjo addressed the youth about taking positive leadership roles for the continent during an interactive session with 15 young men and women from various parts of the continent.

The former President, Kehinde Akinyemi, his Special Assistant for Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, addressed the young people who were competing with the 10 recipients of the Prestigious and Life-Changed Future Africa Leaders Awards in a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi.

He claimed that his imprisonment was a part of the difficulties of his personal life, and that the struggle began with his inability to remain mute.

What could I do after I enlisted in the Army and left my position as a military officer at the age of 42? I was still young, energetic, and dynamic, but I was still young. So I started working in agriculture, and then I entered prison, which was not what I really wanted.

I resisted the temptation to remain silent, making entering prison really difficult. For me, if there is anything to comment on, I did comment on them, and so, I landed in prison, and that is a challenge. And when I left prison, some people felt the need to be saved, and pressure started to build up. “And” the situation was bad in the country.

Obasanjo also lamented that some of the debts incurred by some African nations were reckless and blatantly corrupt in response to a question about the continent’s debts.

” Most of the debts cannot be explained. Some outright corruption”, he disclosed, citing a particular state in Nigeria where the site for a carpet industry was never cleared, and the entire loan was repaid.

He commended the participants and organisers, particularly the founder of the Future Africa Leaders Foundation, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, for hosting the 2024 edition of the programme yet again.

What Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has been up to since 2013, is incredible, and as I said, it’s just a drop in the ocean, but many drops in the ocean make the ocean. On this project, I’m very pleased and content with him, and I’ll keep wishing him the best.

The beneficiaries have the opportunity to spread the message to other parts of the world by inspiring, enriching, and providing for others, so I urge them to carry on the tour and spread. So, go and be African leaders of tomorrow, you have even said it is leaders of today and not tomorrow. Today’s positive disruptive action is now occurring instead of tomorrow.

Julian new Ariori, the Republic of Benin’s Star Prize winner for the 2024 edition, expressed gratitude to the former president for hosting the team, implying that the visit to the Presidential Library opened a new window on the team’s introduction and exposure.

Also participating were those from Libya, Morocco, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, South Sudan, Malawi, Egypt, and Cameroon.
