Eilish McColgan claims to be “looking forward to completing her marathon debut in London with no mishaps,” but quickly admits to having a few “loose goals,” which ended up being important targets.
Setting a new Scottish record would be done if she did, which would be ahead of her mother’s personal best, which she would have broken.
She is undoubtedly not to emulate Liz McColgan’s victory from 1996. In 1997 and 1998, mom and coach set a career best of two hours, 26 minutes, and 52 seconds.
In order to set a Scottish record, Steph Twell cut that time by 12 seconds in 2019.
Eilish, the 2022 Commonwealth champion at 10,000 meters, planned to run her first London Marathon, but she had to withdraw due to injury.
Now that Sunday’s race is on the horizon, she hopes that it will provide the start for her professional career.
The 34-year-old described it as “the furthest I’ve ever run,” adding that it was a total unknown.
“I’m super excited to be a part of it, but there is an overriding feeling of nerves.”
It’s pretty special to be among the fastest women in history to be on the start line.
No accidents, just smooth running for my first marathon. Enjoy the atmosphere, then use this as a springboard for my ambitions and global performances.
Not many Londoners who have never run before will benefit from such a skilled coach.
Eilish about the family connection said, “I don’t think there’s anyone else I could turn to for advice.”
We come at it from a very different perspective, according to the athlete. It’s completely different training regimens than the start line because my mother was very high mileage and I’m very low on mileage.
She asserted that keeping a lid on it during the initial phase is crucial. There is a lot of adrenalin, excitement, and buzz.
“She consistently claims that the real race begins at the distance of 30 to 40 kilometers.”
“It’s obvious that I remember my mother’s PB.” I’d love to change that, in some ways.
The final record she hasn’t broken is “it’s.” The Scottish record is then added.
Return to Glasgow 2026’s track?
Before moving to the flat, McColgan competed in the Glasgow steeplechase in 2014.
The scaled-down competition won’t host a marathon when it comes back to the city next year, but she does have the option of hosting a fifth Commonwealth Games.
She complained about the lack of a 26.2-mile race in 2026, saying, “It’s disappointing.” They could have devised creative ways to include it there.
The road closures were less, as they could have doubled the Great Scottish Run route or run a 10k loop. Something could have been done differently, such as a 10k mixed relay.
“Possibly even a massive participation race like the one at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.” There are numerous large-scale races going in that direction, which would have generated some revenue.
If trying to qualify for the 10k means returning to the track and trying to get into the championships, I’ll try to do that.
