Morrissey forced to cancel gigs after chilling ‘credible’ death threat

After receiving a chilling death threat, singer Morrissey was forced to cancel two US scheduled shows.

The 66-year-old former Smiths frontman made the announcement in a statement posted on his personal Facebook page. He had planned to perform on the Connecticut and Massachusetts stages, but he has decided against doing so because of a “credible threat to his life”

There was a “credible threat to Morrissey’s life in recent days,” the statement read. Tonight’s Foxwoods engagement has been canceled out of a lot of caution for the safety of both the artist and the audience. Thank you for your understanding.

The singer’s official Facebook page published a follow-up statement that read, “The upcoming shows this weekend at Foxwoods and MGM Music Hall have been cancelled due to recent events and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band.” At the time of purchase, all tickets will be refunded in its entirety. The singer’s arrest and charge of making threats toward her on the social media app Blue Sky came after a 26-year-old man from Ottawa was detained and charged with doing so.

Morrissey continued to perform at Ottawa’s CityFolk festival despite the threat. The accused man has posted bail and is currently being held under strict house rules in Washington, DC.

Morrissey’s response to the cancellation was a precautionary measure, but it’s not clear whether it was one of additional threats.

Morrissey, who has been on tour since April, is scheduled to perform in addition to the US later this month. including Denver, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Pittsburgh.
