Mohbad: Naira Marley Testifies As Coroner Summons Sam Larry

Naira Marley, a musician, testified on Friday in front of an Ikorodu Magistrate Court in connection with the coroner’s inquest into the death of late Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

Naira Marley, who came on board, almost admitted to telling the coroner, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, that he had signed late Mohbad to his record label, Marlian Records, to make 4 albums, but that is because the artist and his manager, Opere Babatunde, had frequent disagreements.

Marley also denied assaulting or molesting the late Mohbad, citing a police report that cleared him of these crimes. He claimed that people’s imaginations were the only ones that supported his accusations of molestation.

The late Mohbad’s viral video, in which he claimed Naira Marley and the entire Marlian crew should be held accountable if anything happens to him, was later acknowledged by the witness as saying that Mohbad and his parents apologised for the video, which was made while the artist was using drugs.

Marley resolutely denied that he and the late Mohbad had any conflicts or disagreements. He claimed that he was not even in the country at the time Mohbad passed away and that the last time he saw the artist was a year before his passing.

Naira Marley was criticized by a second witness’ lawyer, Oluwasanmi Falade, for denying that the late Mohbad and him had any disagreements. The attorney confirmed to the coroner that Marlian Records and his client were in fact disputing royalties payments.

The lawyer claimed that he wrote to Marlian Records several times about the issue at Mohbad’s request, but never received a response. He claimed that the Federal High Court has since heard legal arguments about the matter.

Additionally, Falade claimed that Sam Larry, a music promoter, attacked the late Mohbad at Lekki Beach, and that Sam Larry, the late singer, reported the incident to the Force Headquarters, which unsuccessfully attempted to apprehend Sam Larry twice.

At the next adjourned hearing, Magistrate Shotobi summoned Sam Larry to testify before the coroners court.

The coroner also issued a summons to late Mohbad’s driver so that he could testify before the coroner.

Before the next adjourned date, the coroner ordered the pathologist who conducted an independent autopsy on the late Mohbad to send a copy of his findings to the coroner’s court.

Sam Larry’s testimony was taken away from the coroner until April 11.

Wahab Shittu (SAN), the attorney for Mohbad’s family, told journalists outside the court that there isn’t conclusive proof yet that Naira Marley had a role in Mohbad’s death either directly or indirectly.

The attorney is confident that the inquest will uncover the circumstances and order of events that led to the late Mohbad’s passing. He added that in the hours leading up to Mohbad’s passing, it was necessary to examine everyone more closely.
