Minnie Hauk wins Oaks at Epsom in O’Brien one-two

Betfred Derby 2025

Epsom Racecourse Location: Saturday, June 7th, 2015 30 BST

In a one-two, Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien won the Oaks at Epsom after Minnie Hauk defeated her stablemate Whirl.

With Desert Flower in third place and previously unbeaten favorite Ryan Moore just ahead of him, 9-2 was a close call.

Coronation Cup match between Jan Brueghel and Jan Brueghel

After overcoming the challenge of French favorite Calandagan, Jan Brueghel (10-3) won a thrilling Coronation Cup contest with O’Brien and Moore, winning the match.

Jan Breughel, the St. Leger winner last year, was early sent off by Moore and looked set to be reeled in by Calandagan (8-13) under Mickael Barzalona.

However, Moore’s mount rallied to win by half a length despite being joined by his rival in the final few minutes.

He’s a very tough horse, and Ryan gave him a classy ride. O’Brien, who believes Jan Brueghel would have been “the biggest certainty ever” for the 2024 Melbourne Cup, defended O’Brien, who said “he doesn’t surrender.”
