Messi, who had scored 29 goals in 28 games during the regular-season, was given the Golden Boot award prior to the game. He had already won the Ballon d’Or eight times.

In the 19th minute, he showed how he earned it by diving header off Luis Suarez’ pass to give Miami a 1-0 lead.

Rodrigo De Paul received the ball from Sergio Busquets after he had taken control of it near the sideline.

When Suarez fed the ball back to Messi, De Paul discovered a charging Messi, who then pressed forward and handed it to him on the right.

In the 62nd minute, Allende scored with a header from Ian Fray’s pass.

De Paul said, “We know that playoffs are difficult, so we wanted to start with a win at home.” Hopefully, this is just the start. Today’s team performed very well in terms of intensity, concentration, and understanding when to defend and when to attack.

The most crucial thing was that we demonstrated that our team was developing, and that is what is most important. ”

Nine minutes into the second-half injury time, Messi secured the victory by leaning forward to stop a pass from Jordi Alba on the left wing before failing to corral it, allowing Messi to slot home.

Hany Mukhtar scored only in stoppage time in the 11th and final minute, rendering the strike as window dressing.

The victory comes one day after Messi extended his three-year contract to include the 28-year-old Florida through 2028.

Don Garber, the MLS commissioner who was present to Messi with the Golden Boot award, hummed his ears.

Leo would have been able to fulfill his potential as a player for this club, for this city, and for this league, Garber said.

He has changed the course of Major League Soccer, and we were already doing pretty well. And I believe that having three more years will be a gift in itself. ”

De Paul expressed his happiness at having Messi as an all-time great and at his team.

He said, “We see him every weekend, which is advantageous. We must continue to enjoy him. We will be together for a few more years, so I’m very pleased about the renewal. ”

Despite having now defeated Nashville twice in a row, including an emphatic 5-2 victory in the regular-season finale, Masscherano said Inter can’t afford to relax.
