Following his incredible success in the BBC sitcom, Gavin & Stacey star Mathew Horne has revealed a surprising new direction in his career.

After the final Gavin & Stacey episode in December 2024, Mathew Horne’s post-show career includes a new role as a DJ, with upcoming gigs announced in early 2025, and a focus on returning to theatre, with his recent role in a West End production of The Tempest.

The actor, 46, who played the loveable Gavin in the BBC One sitcom from 2007 until 2010, also has a history of other acting roles under his belt, appearing in shows like Bad Education, Drunk History, and The Nan Movie. However, for his next upcoming job, Matthew will be interacting with his adoring fans for the first time in a long time.

Mathew will be a featured artist at the NEC’s MCM Birmingham Comic Con on November 28 and 30. The actor will only be appearing on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November, participating in a panel discussion about his time on the popular BBC sitcoms on Saturday 29 November at 11:30 am.

Nobody was expecting Mathew to make a very different career announcement just days after the final episode of Gavin &amp, Stacey aired.

He has since then continued to pursue acting, including theater, and will now make the effort to meet his fans at Comic Con.

Most surprisingly, Mat swapped Billericay and Barry for London on New Year’s Eve last year when he played a major show. Alongside being a talented actor, Mat also works as a DJ, and he headlined a huge indie party at the Electric Ballroom in Camden on December 31.

His gig came just a few short days after the emotional finale of Gavin & Stacey. The episode secured the highest Christmas Day ratings since 2008, BBC’s viewership figures revealed afterwards.

An average audience of 12.3 million watched the emotional farewell to the well-known sitcom, which saw Smithy and Nessa’s characters finally receive their happy ending.

An insider claims that the BBC was persuaded to keep the ball rolling despite the show’s perfect end. According to a source, “James]Corden] and Ruth]Jones] are adamant this is Stacey’s last film. However, executives will always be hoping for more when a program achieves these outcomes.

In the end, ratings matter, and closing the door on such a hit without the support of fans would be madness. Casually, bosses have deliberated whether a spin-off like Pete and Dawn would work.

They were always more isolated from the main group, and James and Ruth’s involvement may have been a little different because a new universe could be created without any of the core cast.

If Mathew hangs up his DJ headphones and returns to the loveable Gavin role once more, only time will tell.
