Rival clubs might be in for a “shock” if they believe they can buy Manchester United’s unwanted players for a fee this summer, according to Ruben Amorim.

At the start of the pre-season, Amorim exiled his so-called “bomb squad”: Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrrell Malacia.

The other four have been instructed to return to Carrington after being left out of United’s squad for the three-game Premier League Summer Series in the United States, despite Rashford sealing a “dream” move to Barcelona.

Real Betis are still interested in signing Antony after the Brazilian’s impressive loan spell last year, while Juventus are interested in Sancho but must first offload players, and Garnacho has been linked with numerous clubs.

However, there are no imminent deals, and there is a persistent feeling that suitors will hold off until after the transfer window’s closing on September 1 in the belief that the cost will decrease.

Amorim cautioned that this won’t be the case, and that they will if those players are forced to resurrect.

According to Amorim, “[Technical director] Jason Wilcox], [chief executive] Omar Berrada and the club have a number for these players.”

No doubt about it: “If they don’t achieve that, they’ll turn out to be Manchester United players.”

Some players must relocate to make room for themselves, while others must demonstrate their desire for a new challenge and a new team.

“We are simply allowing these players to have some thought and decision-making time.”

Although the club still needs a striker and a holding midfielder to address Amorim’s squad’s obvious weaknesses, new signings Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Diego Leon have arrived at United this summer.

The former Sporting Manager insists he would be happy if he had to face Arsenal in the season opener against his current squad, despite the possibility that it wouldn’t happen.

Our club needs to be very cautious when signing players, he continued.

So, I’m happy if we start the season with this squad because all the players are here want to be here, which is what matters most to me.

Cunha and Mbeumo, who United believe can score the goals from their miserable 15th place last year, have been spending almost £130 million on the forwards.

The choice poses a risk to both players.

Cunha had connections to Tottenham and Arsenal, but he snubbed the chance to play in the mighty Old Trafford as a result of his desire to play for United as a boy.

Given that United’s opponents include Chelsea, Manchester City, and Arsenal in their first five games, and he is aware of the likely reaction to a subpar start to the season, the spotlight will immediately turn to him.

Cunha, 26, says, “I really think the pressure on this club is not really pressure; it’s a privilege.”
