The Enugu State Police Command, through its operatives attached to Okpuje Division, has arrested 33-year-old Sunday Echege of Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in Ibagwa-Ani community, Nsukka LGA, Enugu State, for severing the left wrist of his wife, Chinonso Echege over alleged infidelity.
Echege was detained on Sunday, according to a statement from the command’s police public relations officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the suspect’s machete was recovered from the suspect, and the arrest was made possible with the assistance of law-abiding community members.
Ndukwe claimed that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who has admitted to the crime, made up his allegation that he had acted on suspicion that his wife had been having extramarital affairs.

The suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), under the direction of the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, should carry out a thorough and timely investigation followed by the prosecution of the suspect.
