Due to violence in Villa Park’s away end, Aston Villa’s Europa League game against Young Boys on Thursday was temporarily postponed.

While celebrating his 27th-minute opener, Villa forward Donyell Malen was hit on the head by a plastic cup thrown from the away end.

The Dutchman had his head cut, but he was not undergoing medical care.

After the Young Boys’ opener in the 42nd minute, when Malen scored his second goal, the match was put on hold for five and a half more minutes before being stopped. Young Boys’ captain Loris Benito ran over to speak with the away fans.

A number of seats in the away end were ripped out and thrown in the direction of the pitch.

Aston Villa goal has seen a number of objects being thrown from the away section onto the pitch, according to BBC Radio 5 Live’s Tom Gayle, who is reporting from Villa Park.
