After spending time with Adam Nightingale on the well-known E4 show, married At First Sight UK star Polly Sellman has revealed why she is unable to forgive him.
Polly, 28, appeared on the 2024 series of MAFS UK and was paired up with Adam, 33, after relationship experts Mel Schilling, Paul C Brunson, and Charlene Douglas, felt that they would make the perfect couple. However, Polly and Adam’s marriage journey turned out to be far from straight-forward. One year after knot-tying the knot, they are now no longer on any speaking terms.
Polly exclusively spoke to The Mirror about her decision to decline the offer to join her fellow co-stars several months after filming was over for the MAFS UK reunion, which will air on Monday night on E4. The flame-haired beauty also addressed her relationship with Adam, admitting that she doesn’t see herself ever speaking to him again if he doesn’t offer her a well-deserved apology.
“Myself and Adam really went on a journey. At the start, it was obvious that it was there for me and it wasn’t for him. There wasn’t a spark for him. However, we got on so well. Practically speaking, we were our best friends. You simply didn’t see that in the edit, but we generally got along way better than the majority of the other couples. Because we were our true closest friends, we were. We enjoyed being in each other’s company and we enjoyed spending time together”, Polly shared.
“So that’s what make this whole situation such a shame. Even Adam claimed that I am his female counterpart. He claimed that we were best friends, which is what allowed us to get where we were going and that is what kept us on track. Many people struggled to find what we found right away with one another when we looked at the foundation we had for a friendship and made comparisons to the other couples. We just needed to work on the romantic side of things”, she added.
Even though Polly and Adam have a close relationship while on the show, things couldn’t possibly be any different in the end. When Polly was questioned about whether she would continue to talk to Adam without hesitation after their breakup, she said she didn’t anticipate seeing her ex-husband again.
“No, I haven’t spoken to him since the last reunion. I don’t see us ever being friends again, purely because there’s a lot that he hasn’t taken responsibility for. She said that despite body-shaming me and discussing our sex life on national television, he still believes he doesn’t owe me an apology.
After that, Polly revealed that they had slept together after having a sexual conversation with Adam. “Bearing in mind that after that conversation, we did sleep together. The fact that he thinks that there’s nothing that he’s done wrong warrants an apology, just no. However, I’d leave a key for a potential friendship if he apologizes and then comes to me and says he’s sorry for what he did and said. It’s a no until that day because I apologized for much more than I should have done and it still boggles my mind that he doesn’t owe me an apology for some of the horrible things he has said.
After the pair’s relationship with co-star Amy Kenyon, 28, sparked rumors that they are more than friends since the show’s conclusion, Polly, who will not be present at the show’s final reunion after choosing to withdraw at the last minute for her mental wellbeing, also spoke about their relationship. Adam immediately rekindled his attraction to Amy while on the program, and Polly was triggered when partner-swap week arrived because Adam and Amy were paired up against one another.
Adam and Amy have been reportedly spending a lot of time with one another since the series and their most recent reunion ended, despite consistently denying that they are anything more than just friends.
However, Polly isn’t convinced. “I now 100% believe that they are together. Stevie Wonder might be able to see what’s happening there if I’m wrong, they might be right, but there is no way for them to spend as much time together as they have, and they can always travel for holidays and use TikTok live together while they are both in bed together, she said. “I’m not an idiot. Everyone is aware of what’s happening there, and I believe they are trying to stay relevant there.
Thankfully, Adam and Amy’s close bond doesn’t affect Polly now after she was able to get over their flirtatious ways ‘ a very long time ago’. “I’m over it now. It was a very long time ago, but I finally recovered. I believe I was able to compartmentalise because I actually took a step back and examined the situation I was in. You don’t owe anyone anything after we knew each other for twelve weeks, as we did for twelve. You don’t know anyone in three months just because you believe you know someone. After that, I looked at them as individuals and even though I thought both of them were probably better suited than Adam and I.
In a way, good luck to them because if there is something real between them, who I am, gets in the way of that. I was obviously upset at the time because it all happened so soon after Adam and I ended things. Since the start of the show, I’ve been working on myself, getting the help I needed, and talking to people to explain why I behaved that way. I’ve worked so hard on myself and grown a lot.
In explaining why she chose not to attend the most recent reunion, Polly explained that it was a combination of spending time with her family, looking after her mental well-being, and not putting herself back in a situation that ultimately led to her refraining from attending. I am aware that questions about Amy and Adam would have just triggered my decision to attend the reunion. In front of a bull, you would have to wave a red flag. That’s another factor in why I chose not to travel, then. These two people have denied for a long time that there is chemistry between them, and I would have been seated next to them. They would have flirted in my face straight in front of me and asked me profanity and cruel questions, she said.
Following her troubled stint on the reality show, Polly has left the UK. The reality TV star has made a completely new beginning by relocating to sunny Australia and focusing on investing in herself. Since appearing on the show, she has lost an incredible four stone.
