The significance of Madonna’s hit ” Like a Prayer ” appears to have increased unexpectedly.

According to a fascinating interactive piece by Henry Louis Gates Jr., who collaborated with American Ancestors and the Miami Cuban Genealogy Club, The Queen of Pop has been linked to Pope Leo XIV.

The article builds on the research of New Orleans genealogist Jari C. Honora, which reveals that the Pope has Black ancestors and highlights his Creole heritage, which Jari first made.

Madonna is among several celebrities found to share ancestry with the Pope through a Canadian forebear, Louis Boucher de Grandpre from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec. This ancestral tie places the Pope in a family tree with a host of “Canadian-derived distant cousins,” including not just Madonna but also Angelina Jolie, Hillary Clinton, Justin Bieber, Jack Kerouac, and both Pierre and Justin Trudeau.

Upon discovering her familial ties to the pontiff, Madonna couldn’t hide her excitement. On Monday, June 16, she took to social media, sharing a screenshot of the revelation on X/Twitter and then posting a black-and-white snap of herself with her dad, Silvio Ciccone, on Instagram Stories, as reported by Mirror US, reports the Express.

She chose Veronica as her confirmation name after being raised in the Catholic faith, and she has since developed her “spiritual practices.”

She has studied various religions, including Judaism, Sufism, and Kabbalah, but Catholicism has consistently had an impact on her, most notably in her music career as a result of its symbols.

She is credited with infusing the cross into pop culture as a statement.

The 66-year-old icon has frequently been the subject of controversy over her controversial use of Catholic imagery, which has been linked to blasphemy and sacrilege. The Vatican was outraged by her controversial 1989 film “Like A Prayer,” which featured burning crosses and a sensual depiction of Jesus.

Even Pope John Paul II urged the country to boycott her Blond Ambition tour.

With her Vanity Fair cover shoot, Madonna once more sparked debate with her depiction of the Virgin Mary and other religious motifs, such as the 12 apostles. She expressed her shock at being targeted by the Church, referring to the backlash to “Like a Prayer” and the subsequent calls for a boycott, noting that they did not understand the positive intentions behind her artistic endeavors.

Following a conclave on May 8, an unexpected cardinal from the United States, Robert Francis Prevost, has been elected as the 267th pope of the Roman Catholic Church. The 69-year-old cardinal, who is now known as Pope Leo, is the first person from America to hold the revered position.

Pope Leo succeeds Pope Francis, who tragically passed away on April 21 at the age of 88 from complications from a cerebral stroke that caused a coma and heart failure.

Pope Leo, who was born on September 14, 1955, and his two brothers Louis and John were raised in the South Suburban city of Dolton. His parents, Louis Marius Prevost and Mildred Martinez, both worked in the parish and as librarian.

Pope Leo’s heritage, which includes his father having Italian and French ancestry, and his mother having Spanish ancestry, is interesting. The family also discovered Creole roots on their father’s side, according to his brother, but it was never a topic of discussion among the siblings.

In a tweet in which Madonna addressed Pope Francis in 2015, she said, “I’m a good Catholic. I swear 🙂 🙂 🙂 ! I mean, I don’t wear a shirt! My last confession was a few decades ago. Would it be possible to meet up for a meeting to talk about significant issues in the future? It seems unfair in comparison.
