Pop icon Madonna has taken a swipe at Sabrina Carpenter.

It comes after Espresso singer Sabrina appeared to take inspiration from the Queen of Pop for a new photoshoot as she rocked a very similar look. Over the years, Madonna, 66, has become famous for her looks, including her 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour which saw her slip into a Jean Paul Gaultier corset.

But it appears that Sabrina, 25, was a fan of this image as she recreated a photo, originally taken of Madonna back in 1991. And Madonna has made it very clear what she thinks of Sabrina’s new look as she took to social media to respond to the comments regarding the similarity.

Back in 1991, Madonna posed for Italian Vogue wearing a wearing barely anything as she rocked her famous blonde tresses in a wavy style. She was pictured by legendary photographer Steven Meisel, who also covered her Like A Virgin album cover in 1984 as well as her Versace SS/95 collection and her 2009 Vanity Fair cover.

Now, Sabrina has recreated one of Madge’s bombshell looks as she posed on the cover of Vogue waring a turquoise corset. The On Purpose songstress ditched her flowing blonde hair and instead rocked a platinum blonde wig, similar to Madonna’s previous hairstyles.

Responding to Sabrina’s Instagram post, Madonna said: “Is this a Valentine’s present to me?” to which Sabrina replied: “@madonna it sure is!” Sabrina herself was even photographed by Steven Meisel for the Vogue cover shoot. Fans had also taken to the comment section to reflect on the striking resemblence.

One said: “Madonna vibes.” While a second added: “Like a Carpenter she wants to take you there.” “Madonna subtly letting her know she knows this is a straight up 1992 Madonna rip off,” said a third. Meanwhile, a fourth went on to say: “Hmm what’s the point in recreating a Marilyn Monroe / Madonna type image. Instead be your own unique self.”

Responding to the backlash she has received for her on-stage outfits, Sabrina told Vogue: “I dress in this way where you would expect to hear a voice from the 60s. I remember feeling inspired by women that felt strong and hyperfeminine. And then being like: ‘If only she said what she was actually thinking.'”

The hitmaker was yesterday announced as the first winner of the Global Success award at the BRIT Awards. Last year, she held the Number One spot for a combined time of 21 weeks, the first female singer to do so in 71 years. She also became the first female to ever occupy the top three spots with her singles, Taste, Please Please Please and Espresso.

After the BRITs, Sabrina is set to stay in the UK for her European tour, which she announced a month before releasing her sixth album last summer. The tour kicks off in the UK on March 6 in Birmingham, followed by March 8 in London.
