When Sunday’s 45th anniversary of the London Marathon takes place, records will be in doubt.

Course and world records will be on the line for stacked elite fields, and anyone who succeeds in the men’s and women’s races will receive a £98, 000 bonus.

With more than 56 000 participants expected, the event this year aims to break the world record for the most marathon participants.

The previous New York Marathon record was set at 55, 646 runners, but the Paris Marathon this month recorded 56, 950 runners.

London’s streets will be brimming with people who are passionate about advancing their own goals, some setting new records, and cheering themselves on throughout the 26.2 miles in the company of enthusiastic supporters.
