Liverpool turned down a request to speak with forward Luis Diaz from Barcelona.

Diaz, one of Liverpool’s key players in winning the Premier League title last year, is not for sale, according to club sources.

The 28-year-old signed for Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 and is on a one-year deal until 2027.

As Liverpool won the title by ten points, he scored 13 goals and added seven assists.

After Diaz and his girlfriend both posted lengthy social media posts to Liverpool fans that might have been read as farewell messages, Diaz’s future sparked more speculation.

Early in the transfer window, Liverpool’s chief executive of football, Michael Edwards, and Richard Hughes, the club’s sporting director, have begun a fresh start to Arne Slot’s squad.

Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong’s transfer from Bayer Leverkusen was completed last week for a sum of $ 29 million.

Liverpool are close to agreeing a club-record £109 million fee for Leverkusen’s Germany midfielder Florian Wirtz, and they are interested in signing Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez for between £45 and £50 million.

Giorgi Mamardashvili, a Georgian goalkeeper, will make his debut after spending the season on loan at Valencia before joining Liverpool last summer.

In April, Virgil van Dijk, the captain, and prolific forward Mohamed Salah signed a new two-year contract to stay at Anfield until 2027, ending speculation about his future.

Caoimhin Kelleher was sold to Brentford for an initial £12.5 million fee while Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is currently at the end of his Liverpool contract, signed for Real Madrid.
