According to her memoir, From Here To The Great Unknown, Lisa Marie Presley was battling opioid addiction to the point where she was taking 80 pills every day.

After her twin daughters Finley and Harper were delivered via C-section, she was prescribed painkillers to help her recover. The 54-year-old Elvis Presley’s daughter became dependent on pills after giving birth to her twin daughters via C-section. She was the daughter of the legendary superstar.

In the new memoir which went on sale back in October, Lisa Marie said: “It escalated to 80 pills a day. I honestly don’t know when your body decides it can no longer handle it because it took more and more to get high. But it does decide at some point”. Four years ago, Lisa’s son Benjamin, who had already passed away, claimed he had struggled to cope with his sudden death.

The heartbreaking details of Lisa Marie Presley’s opioid addiction, which grew after her twin daughters were born, are revealed in Lisa Marie Presley’s memoir.

Lisa Marie turned to opioids after the heartbreaking loss of her son in 2020. She described her initial use as recreational, but it soon became a dependency. The memoir read: “It was an absolute matter of addiction, withdrawal in the big league. I merely wanted to check out. It was too painful to be sober”.

Riley, one of her daughters, claimed that her mother started using opioids after giving birth to her daughters. She had started off taking them to relieve the pain following her c-section but it soon “progressed” into addiction. According to her memoir, Lisa Marie’s family was stunned by her addiction, as she had avoided drugs since her younger years.

A mother of four, she ended up in the hospital and rehab after an overdose. She made the decision to become clean and sober after having a seizure. However, after having bariatric surgery, which reduced the size of the stomach and altered the gut hormones, her health deteriorated even more.

Following her tragic death, it was revealed that a “small bowel obstruction” caused her passing, rather than complications from her opioid addiction. Riley, her daughter, finished Lisa Marie’s book, which Riley referred to as a “gift.”

In a behind the scenes video of her, she is seen saying: “I aim not only to honour my mother, but to tell a human story in what I know is an extraordinary circumstance. The recordings my mother left are a gift, as I am aware of. She added: “So often, all that’s left of a loved one is a saved and re-saved voicemail, a short video on a phone, some favourite photos. I take the privilege of these tapes very seriously”.
