Lily Allen has dressed up as David Harbour’s ‘mistress’ for Halloween, after releasing a song about the alleged infidelity that ended their marriage as part of her new album

Lily Allen used Halloween as an opportunity to take a cheeky dig at her ex-husband David Harbour, dressing up as his alleged mistress ‘Madeline’. The 39-year-old singer has been making headlines with the release of her new album West End Girl, which features candid songs about the breakdown of her marriage, including allegations of infidelity.

The first single from the album, aptly named ‘Madeline’, seems to reference David’s supposed mistress with the lyrics “and who’s Madeline?”. On the same day the single was released, Lily made an appearance at the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles, dressed as the beloved children’s book character, Madeline, in what appears to be a thinly veiled jab at her ex’s alleged affair, according to reports.

Lily completed her costume with an orange bob wig, white socks, black shoes and a red Birkin handbag. Despite accusing the Stranger Things actor of being unfaithful, Lily maintains that her new song is a blend of personal experiences and fiction. However, fans have been eager to uncover the story behind the anthem, with one interviewer boldly asking Lily, “Who the f*** is Madeline?”.

Comparisons have been drawn between Lily’s song and Dolly Parton’s classic ‘Jolene’, as well as Beyoncé’s ‘Sorry’ with its infamous line about “Becky with the good hair” following Jay-Z’s admission of infidelity.

Lily’s Halloween costume was among the standout celebrity outfits this year, with A-listers pulling out all the stops for the red carpet. This comes after Lily has been accused of using her bitter divorce from David to propel her latest album West End Girl, as part of a ‘strategic PR move’. It was reported that some of the tracks had been written by the mum of two four years ago at the time she had just started her romance with the Stranger Things actor.

According to reports some of those involved in the making of the album are describing it as a “vindictive publicity stunt” and “part of a carefully constructed PR strategy.”

By her own admission, Lily, 40, has said that her album was “autofiction” and confessed to using “poetic licence.” But those who were heavily involved in the completion of the album have reportedly claimed it was in fact based on a previous album. And this particular album was written four years ago, when she had just started dating David.

The couple started dating back in 2019 after matching on the celebrity dating app Raya. And by the following year, they embarked on a shot gun wedding and married in Las Vegas the following year.

The Daily Mail states that some of the content is resurfaced material from a previous “revenge album” she had been working on, but never came to fruition.

An insider reportedly said: “Some years ago Lily wrote a really, really honest album about men she had come into contact with who weren’t exactly nice to her, it was nothing to do with David; this was all taking place when they were deliriously happy. But this is where West End Girl stemmed from.”

They continued: “Then, peppered in, are clear references to the breakdown of her marriage to actor David but by no means is it all about him, though Lily has been very happy to allow that narrative to continue and bash David. ” They continued to say that she has done very little to put an end to the negative narrative that is surrounding her split. The source went on to say that the star can be prone to being “vindictive” when it comes to talking about her ex partners.

Lily’s album has been a huge talking point among many since it’s release earlier this month, especially as one of her tracks is about a woman who allegedly had an affair with David. In the song Lily tells fans that she contacted a woman, who she refers to as Madeline, who she believed had an emotional connection with David, which went against her open marriage agreement with the actor.

The lyrics read: “We had an arrangement, be discreet and don’t be blatant/ There had to be payment, it had to be with strangers, but you’re not a stranger, Madeline.” Lily then goes through a series of text messages sent by ‘Madeline’, who has recently been named as Natalie Tippett, a single mother.

Despite the controversy surrounding her album, it appears it is doing well in the singles charts. The singer has always claimed that the material in the album was not to be intentionally cruel, but it was a means of expressing her inner thoughts.

Since the album was released, the relationship between Lily and her ex appears to be amicable as he was spotted with her daughters Ethel 13 and Marnie, 12. A source went on to inform the publication that it’s likely Lily doesn’t detest David half as much as what many are led to believe but it’s release has come at the worst time possible for David.

Netflix are reportedly not having David at the centre of promotions while he is in the middle of a negative media storm. The publication states that Stranger things is a “squeaky clean” TV show and this could potentially be damaging.
