If you’ve been scrolling through your Instagram feed recently, you may have noticed that leopard print has made a return to fashion – something many seem to be obsessed with again. However, cow print has also made a surprising comeback and is quickly gaining traction in the fashion world.

While 2024 has been the year of leopard print, and it continues to make waves today, cow print is on its way to overtaking its popularity. Both prints have seen a resurgence, incorporated into new collections as fresh, versatile alternatives.

Cow print, in particular, has re-emerged as a prominent trend, gaining attention for its subtle yet striking appearance, offering a less overpowering look compared to leopard print.

Recently, there has been a noticeable shift in fashion towards bold colours and prints, as people experiment with different styles. However, trends are also heavily influenced by pop culture, with celebrities playing a key role in introducing and popularising them.

As a result, many trends, including the return of animal prints, are often fuelled by celebrity endorsements, media exposure, and new collections from well-known and household brands.

Many influencers are now sporting cow print across a range of items, from jackets to shoes and handbags, but it is particularly dominant in jackets. As the winter season comes to a close, several styles and lengths of cow-print jackets have begun to appear, indicating that the trend is here to stay, at least for the near future.

Fashion trends tend to resurface every few years, and animal prints are no exception. Leopard print, for instance, was hugely popular in the 90s when Christian Dior first began incorporating the pattern into his collections. Since then, it has regularly made a comeback, most recently seen in the popularity of leopard-print clothing and accessories.

On the other hand, cow print is slowly beginning to take the lead, offering a fun and experimental way to try a pattern that isn’t as commonly seen in fashion. It’s eye-catching but less intense than other prints, such as zebra or leopard, and its black-and-white colour scheme makes it much easier to pair with other clothing items. This versatility is a key reason for its growing popularity.

Moreover, cow print brings with it a sense of Western nostalgia and taps into the rise of “country” fashion. The print has been incorporated into both modern streetwear and luxury collections, as it can be easily paired up in casual and much more formal outfits.

Despite some might loving or hating it, the leopard print and the newly-introduced cow print have become an approachable alternative for 2025.
