Barry Hills, a renowned racehorse trainer, passed away at the age of 88.
In a career spanning more than 3,200 years, the Lambourn-based trainer won more than 3,200 victories.
He won 10 British and Irish Classics, including the 2, 000 Guineas with Tap On Wood in 1979 and the 1, 000 Guineas with Ghanaati 30 years later, after beginning his jockey and head lad career in 1969.
Further Flight won five Jockey Club Cups while Nagwa won 13 of those victories as a child.
Hills continued to train despite having throat cancer and serious illnesses.
He retired in 2011 and passed it to his son Charlie, but he later came out of retirement after his son John’s passing.
Both of Michael’s and Richard’s sons were successful jockeys.
The BHA’s statement read, “All of us at the BHA are saddened to learn of Barry Hills’ passing and send our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this sad time.
