LA Olympics may be ‘good launching pad’ for NBA league in Europe

LA Olympics may be ‘good launching pad’ for NBA league in Europe

According to the game’s commissioner in the United States, the NBA is still in discussions with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and other organizations regarding the creation of a new league in Europe.

The Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 could serve as a potential “launching pad” for another NBA competition, according to Adam Silver, who noted that it may take at least a few more years to realize the ideas.

He was speaking at a league event on Friday to introduce a renovated Boys & Girls &; arena during an NBA Finals break. Girls Club in Oklahoma City expressed concern that the plans for Europe don’t have a specific timeline.

Silver said, “I will say that it is measured in years, not months. We are still at least a few years away from launching, so.

It would be a significant undertaking. And while we want to advance slowly, we also want to make sure that we consult with all the appropriate parties involved, including the current league, its teams, European players, media companies, and marketing partners. There is a lot to be done. ”

In 2014, Adam Silver, the NBA commissioner, was sworn in.

The league and the game’s governing body are finally forming a new league, with an initial target of 16 teams, according to Silver and FIBA Secretary-General Andreas Zagklis, who made the announcement in March.

On some levels, the idea had been discussed for years or even decades. Silver’s revealed that discussions between the NBA and FIBA have improved since the two organizations went public with their plan to move forward.

Silver stated that the NBA has been discussing a partnership with some member clubs and the EuroLeague in the past. Although it’s still too early to say exactly what that means, he thinks the NBA should work with the current league at some point.

In any case, we still believe there are a sizable number of underserved basketball fans in Europe and that there is a great chance for a league to be created in a different way, Silver said.

One in every six current NBA players is from Europe, including Victor Wembanyama from France and Luka Doncic from the Los Angeles Lakers and Giannis Antetokounmpo of San Antonio and Giannis Antetokounmpo of San Antonio, who have combined for five of the last seven MVP awards.

At their upcoming meeting in Las Vegas in July, the board of governors of the NBA will discuss the next steps with the European plans, Silver said. Given how much international basketball will be discussed at the time, it is possible that the European venture will be unveiled in some way or begin sometime in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

That might serve as a good starting place for announcing a new competition, Silver said.

London, Manchester, Rome, and Munich are among the cities anticipated to be interested in announcing a partnership with the new venture. Of course, there will be others.
