Tricia McLaughlin, a home security assistant secretary, has attacked Kim Kardashian, calling her “misinformed and disconnected from reality,” after criticizing Donald Trump’s ICE raids.
Reality TV icon Kim Kardashian has found herself at the centre of a political row after publicly condemning President Donald Trump ’s ICE raids.
The 44-year-old reality star and business mogul, who recently completed her law degree, voiced her disapproval of the operations during an appearance at the DVF Awards in Venice where she was being honoured for her work on prison reform.
But Kim’s comments haven’t gone down well inside the White House, with a senior figure saying the mum-of-four is “misinformed and detached”. It comes as rumours about Trump’s health circulate online.

Speaking to Variety, Kim said: “In the news you hear: ‘Oh, it’s about people who have committed these crimes and they’re trying to help out our country.’ But then you hear about all of the people who have worked so hard to build our country, and so many people that are such a part of our country getting affected.
People I know, I say. People I know, my friends. You first assume that protection has a powerful message, but later you realize that it isn’t actually occurring as it should.
She continued, “It’s really tough, but I think we need to do everything in our power to protect the people who have truly supported and built our country.”
Kardashian’s comments did not go down well with Homeland Security. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told TMZ: “Ms. Kardashian is misinformed and detached from the very reality of the operations in Los Angeles she has decided to opine on.”
Under President Trump and Secretary Noem’s leadership, Homeland Security has removed from Los Angeles’ streets the violent criminals known as murderers, rapists, gang members, and child pedophiles, McLaughlin continued.
Then she wryly asked, “Why does Ms. Kardashian still betray criminals while ignoring the brave and innocent Americans who serve in law enforcement?”
The conflict comes after Kardashian’s active involvement in a protracted stretch of her advocacy for prison reform, during which she pushed for clemency cases, fought for new laws, and met with lawmakers from all sides of the political spectrum.
She personally worked with the White House to pass the FIRST STEP Act, a bipartisan law that changed sentencing standards and expedited the release of thousands of prisoners.
Kardashian has also been outspoken in her criticism of Trump’s immigration policies. In June, she posted a statement to her Instagram Story calling the raids in Los Angeles “inhumane”.
She wrote at the time, “Great when we are informed that ICE exists to keep our country safe and remove violent criminals.” However, we must speak up when we witness cruel, compassionate people being treated unfairly by their families. What’s right, we must do.
Immigrants are a significant component of American society, she continued, “They are our neighbors, friends, classmates, coworkers, and family.” It’s obvious that immigrants’ contributions to our communities are what drives their growth, no matter where you stand politically. A BETTER method HAS to be employed.
While some Americans praised her for speaking out, others accused her of virtue signalling because of her personal ties to the Trump family. Kardashian is known to be friendly with Ivanka Trump and has previously met both the former president and First Lady Melania Trump.
