Before the transfer window closes on Thursday, England international Chloe Kelly says she wants to “be happy again.”
As the Lionesses attempt to defend their European Championship title this summer, Kelly, who has only started one Women’s Super League game for City this season, said she wants to put herself in the best position to represent her country.
The player is reportedly considering an offer, and Manchester City are willing to let the 27-year-old leave.
The WSL transfer window closes at 23: 00 GMT on Thursday, 30 January.
Kelly stated that she has accepted that her future is not at this club after her City contract expires in June.
In an Instagram message posted little more than 24 hours before Thursday’s deadline, Kelly wrote: “With the Euros fast approaching, this summer is a huge one and I want to be in a position to give it my best shot to represent my country.
With only four months left in the football season, I have a huge impact on both my career and my mental well-being, but to be dictated who I can and can’t join is.
“The situation has been dragged on for too long, it’s disappointing and not right”.
When England won their first major women’s tournament at Euro 2022 and made history, Kelly scored the winning goal against Germany.
She claimed she could not “control someone’s negative behavior” toward her as she sought to clarify her position on Wednesday night, but she did not name anyone.
Her only WSL start of the season came against West Ham in October.
“My career is very important to me, and this is at a crucial time in my life.” After seeing how much growth in our sport, Kelly said, “It’s very disappointing that the sport we love can make you feel this way.”
“I am human, and I give everything to the game I love.”
