Katie Price’s family are worried about her vaping addiction following an Instagram post which stated ‘vaping has officially been linked to rare and irreversible lung disease’

Katie Price has sparked fresh concerns for her health after admitting on social media that she’s addicted to vaping. Posting a shocking X-ray of a diseased lung on her Instagram stories, carrying the warning: “Vaping has officially been linked to rare and irreversible lung disease”, Katie added her own message, “I have to stop.”

With a history of lung disease in the star’s family, the mum-of-five’s loved ones are particularly concerned about her vape habit. Katie’s mum Amy, 73, has been battling terminal Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) – which causes scarring of the lungs and makes breathing increasingly difficult – for several years and she underwent a lung transplant in 2022.

But Katie, who was spotted vaping on a train last year, and was even seen puffing on one of the devices during her and pal Kerry Katona ’s recent live tour, has so far struggled to quit.

“Katie needs to stop for health reasons and, obviously, her family members have been very worried,” a source tells us. “But she’s so stressed and it [vaping] is simply her way of releasing that stress. “It’s also very addictive and as we know, Katie’s got a very addictive personality.”

Katie’s boyfriend of nearly two years, former Married At First Sight contestant JJ Slater, is said to be particularly worried but feels unable to help the strong-willed star.

“JJ is concerned about her, but there’s only so much he can do,” says our source. “Katie’s under severe stress and just has one thing after another to contend with. He really does love her, but she has got her own mind and sadly, with the vaping, it has become a real habit for her.”

It’s not the first time Katie’s vaping has caused an issue for her loved ones. In October 2023, her sister Sophie, who co-hosts Katie’s podcast, The Katie Price Show, begged, “Can you stop vaping please?” during one episode.

And in November 2024, the star sparked outrage when she was filmed vaping on a train – despite it being banned on the majority of rail networks.

In March this year, it appeared her sister’s warning had fallen on deaf ears as Katie caused online fury after she was pictured vaping in front of her four-month-old niece, Olive. Then, two months ago, fans claimed the star was even vaping on stage, with one saying, “She hid behind a cushion, vaping with stress because her children were there, which meant she couldn’t host the show properly.”

If Katie does try to quit the toxic habit, it won’t be her first attempt at doing so. She previously pledged to give up a couple of years ago, even suggesting that vaping had made one of her teeth fall out.

“I am going to stop it because I don’t know why I do it,” she said during an episode of her hit podcast. “It’s this new, social thing where everyone vapes. I don’t normally like to be a follower, I am usually a leader.

“Do you know what it is, they smell nice. I like the way it just comes out, if you swirl your tongue you really get the taste.”

Revealing that one of her teeth had recently come out, she then suggested that vaping could be to blame. “I swear it is the vape because I put it here – it’s on the tooth that came out,” she explained. “So I wonder if that is what made my tooth fall out?”

Given Katie’s concerns for her mum Amy, whose condition has occasionally left her needing to use a wheelchair, it’s no surprise that she’s alarmed by vaping having possible links to lung disease.

Speaking earlier this year on The Katie Price Show, Katie revealed how Amy has lost her independence due to her illness, saying, “She can’t do the things that she used to do, which is frustrating for her.”

But it seems the more life throws at Katie, the more she turns to vaping. “Whenever she’s feeling stressed, she reaches for the vape,” says our source. “So it’s going to be hard to keep away from them. “She’s worried because of what happened to her mum – her mum is so ill and has to carry around oxygen.”

In September, another source close to Katie described vaping as her “vice”, adding, “Katie can’t live without one and it’s always in the form of addiction. “It’s never healthy, and currently it’s vaping. It’s driven by her addictive nature, and her family are all worried that without getting her help, things could get serious.”

The star has already battled a string of health woes this year. In September, New Magazine revealed how Katie ended up in hospital after accidentally stabbing herself while making a curry. She has also sought medical help for her recent weight loss, telling fans on Snapchat, “The reason I’m going to the doctors is because I keep losing weight and I don’t know why. So that’s that.” Despite the odds being stacked against her, our source believes Katie’s loved ones are hopeful she can win her vaping battle, saying, “It’s something that they’re hoping she will be able to eventually crack.”

And if anyone can manage to crack it, the Pricey can.
