Katie Price has opened up about her worries with her son Harvey Price, as she admits one of her fears is what will happen to her eldest son when she dies
Katie Price has given a new update on her son Harvey Price and his health. The 22-year-old son of the former glamour model and her ex Dwight Yorke has rare genetic disorder, Prader-Willi syndrome.
Symptoms include learning difficulties, behavioural challenges, muscle weakness, and an insatiable appetite. Katie had previously shared her fears that Harvey might have a heart attack and weighed nearly 30 stone.
Speaking on her The Katie Price Show podcast, she said: “One of the most difficult things is when you have to leave them with carers or when they’re full time in residential care. For me, that’s a massive worry.
“Harvey doesn’t speak like us, the communication, but as he’s got older, he’s got better. Because, you want them to look after them how you would look after them. No one’s going to ever look after your son how mum does it. Even when I tuck him in bed and stuff like that, it’s a mum thing. Of course there’s been challenges but that’s not Harvey’s fault.”
She added: “All the children have different things but I suppose not knowing what’s going to happen next to Harvey, like now we’ve weighed him this week and he’s just under 30 stone. That’s huge. He’s on the verge of heart attack and he won’t have a long life if he keeps putting more and more weight on. That’s a massive worry for me at the moment.”
Katie explained that the doctors were involved in supporting both her and Harvey, but her biggest worry would be that if she was to die, what would happen to her eldest son.
“Obviously, we’re doing something with the doctors and stuff but because of his complex needs and medication he’s on, things aren’t as easy as that. It’s always a constant worry – like if I die, what’s going to happen?” she said.
“You’ve always got to make sure everything’s in place. Whether I’ve got money or not, it’s not about that. It’s Harvey’s rights and making sure that everything’s set up for him. I know the family would be there but it’s Harvey’s right and you have to make sure everything is in place. I love my Harvey Price.”
Whilst Katie loves having Harvey home with her, she admits there are some difficult moments.
She added on her podcast: “I always look forward to seeing him and when he’s here, I’m like here we go, lack of sleep, he’s in the cupboards, it’s constant ‘mum mum’. And then obviously the last time I took him back to college, he communicates enough to say I’m so sad mum, I’m so angry I have to go to college, I hate it. And I hate it – and it’s not long until he moves near me and then there’s no worry. It’s just his weight that’s the huge thing at the moment.”
