Kate Garraway, a host of Good Morning Britain, lost her husband in January 2024, almost four years after he became chronically ill from COVID-19.

Kate Garraway has opened up about coming to terms with her grief for her late husband Derek Draper during the filming of Celebrity Traitors. The Good Morning Britain presenter, who tragically lost Derek in January 2024 after a long illness stemming from COVID-19, found that participating in the show allowed her to finally confront her emotions.

She described how her grief “comes out” as she explained to Fabulous magazine about the isolation she experienced while filming earlier this year. Being completely cut off would be amazing, she said, adding that she was a “heart fan.” You were completely engaged in the game, which was unusual.

You had no access to the internet or a phone, so you couldn’t think of anything else. For a news junkie like me, it was strange that you couldn’t even watch TV.

“But there were also times when you were completely independent. You weren’t left behind in some dungeon, though.

The team treated you with respect. But this was my first time thinking, “Oh, I must pay this bill.” Being in my own head allowed for a lot of grief to come out, which was wonderful.

“Sometimes, you were escorted around by a producer when you weren’t filming.”

You ended up talking about other things because you weren’t permitted to talk to them about the game.

She suggested that I write down everything I want for the upcoming chapter of my life and discuss Derek on my birthday.

“So I did, and we burned it later. Although it was quite hippy-dippy, I had no idea how to do it at home. When will I ever have that many hours to work on? “.

Kate acknowledged that her time on the show required a while to get back to her old self and found herself deeply affected by it.

The 58-year-old celebrity is now considering beginning grief counseling. She said, “That was such an incredible experience.

“Until recently, I’ve been shocked and focused on the kids and everything else.” However, I’ve come to the realization that I’m allowing this process.

Kate was the family’s primary earner and Derek’s husband, Derek, contracted Covid in March 2020, making him his full-time caregiver. Derek passed away a short while later. Kate has since concentrated on raising Darcey and Billy, her two kids.
