He-Man, a veteran actor best known for his portrayal in well-known cartoons, passed away at the age of 88.
From 1983 to 1986, John Erwin portrayed the character in She-Ra: Princess of Power and He-Man and The Masters of the Universe. Despite having small budgets, both cartoons enjoyed a lot of success in the US and the UK.
Because the cartoons gave the actor the chance to showcase the range of his voice acting abilities, Erwin also performed smaller characters like Beast Man.
But his representatives today confirmed the performer’s death, of natural causes, after a career spanning some 45 years. His most recent role was in a Family Guy episode where he also voiced He-Man as the cartoon was played during a scene with Brian Griffin.

Alan Oppenheimer, who voiced Skeletor alongside Erwin on He-Man, said on Friday night in a statement: “Working with John Erwin was a ballad of irreverence, professionalism and surprise.
” He was a series actor, writer, performer of commercials, musician, painter and an all-around lovely gentleman, an indelible addition to my life. “
Melendy Britt, the voice actor of He-Man’s twin sister She-Ra added:” For 40 years, John Erwin was not only my brother onscreen, he was my friend. “
In 1968, Erwin began his illustrious voice acting career by playing the grumpy Reggie Mantle in the television series The Archies. His voice became well-known in the US a year later when he appeared in numerous commercials as the snarky Morris the Cat. The 9Lives brand of cat food was dominated by the orange tabby cat, which was recognized as one of the country’s favorite felines at the time.
This led to the creation of She-Ra: Princess of Power and The Masters of the Universe, both of which received US awards. Paying tribute today, fans recalled the series and Erwin’s creativity.
The veteran actor passed away on December 20, 2024 in Camarillo, California, from natural causes, but his agent only confirmed his death on Friday. Survivors include” his loving family of children and grandchildren, “according to the public relations firm.
