Joe Lycett’s popular Channel 4 share has been shelved for a rare reason.
It’s claimed the comedian’s hit series, Late Night Lycett, has been paused by bosses at the broadcaster. The live show, which first aired in 2023, was broadcast on Friday nights from Birmingham. Over the course of its two-season run, Daisy May Cooper has been joined by a number of well-known faces, including Danny Dyer, Greg James, Ross Kemp, and Greg James.
The funnyman would entertain his guests in humorous skits throughout the show. However, fans will be disappointed to hear it won’t be making an immediate return.
The Sun reports that Joe’s bosses want the show to continue, but they also granted him an extended paternity leave after the birth of his son in October. Since the show normally airs in April, it is currently in pre-production.
However, an insider told the publication: “Late Night Lycett is a hugely popular format and one that Channel 4 want to keep on air. It’s not afraid to get the most famous names on a Friday night out, like Elizabeth Hurley and Alesha Dixon, thanks to Joe’s funny one-liners and the comedy and feel-good vibe.
Joe has taken extended breaks from his newborn son and family, Joe claims that Channel 4 is interested in another series.
They claimed that Joe’s bosses respect his decision and are willing to discuss it again if necessary.
Joe revealed to his followers that he had grown up last year, surprising them. Sharing a post on social media at the time, he wrote:” An appreciation post from me for the extraordinary @bham_womens hospital. Years ago, when they successfully cared for a friend of mine through surgery, and most recently, when they masterfully welcomed a young boy, who also happens to be my son, I had my first interaction with them.
“The care and compassion his mum and he received was exceptional, from the antenatal classes, incredible midwives, consultants, doctors, nurses and the ongoing care in the community. We also loved their baked potatoes. I’m forever grateful for everything they’ve done for Birmingham and how fortunate they are to have them.
He later thanked his fans too in an email newsletter. He wrote, “I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who has been so gracious about my news (you might have seen it on Instagram or in the press that I have just welcomed a son. … I’m finding fatherhood to be a total delight”, he wrote.
