Jeremy Clarkson has set the record straight on what’s inside the now infamous ‘£200 pork pie’ that’s been causing a stir on social media this week.

The former Top Gear star and Diddly Squat Farm owner opened his Cotswold pub The Farmer’s Dog last year, which has become a huge hit, and this week his Farm Shop is a hot topic because of one specific item – a giant pork pie., or is it?

When footage of the item, labelled “Extra extra large made to order £199.99”, was first shared on social media people were in ‘disbelief’ with the pricing, with one saying: “Is it seriously £200 for a pie?!” while another said: “I am wondering how they can justify prices like that.”

But, now Jeremy has taken to social media to set the record straight.

On Friday, January 24 Jeremy took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to say: “There are reports in some of the sillier newspapers that the enormous pork pie is for sale at the Farmer’s Dog for £200. You’re welcome to buy it for that, but I wouldn’t recommend eating it. As it’s not made of food.” Which has left people questioning, what’s inside?

Over on Instagram Jeremy confirmed the ‘pie’ is in fact filled with straw and his followers have seen the funny side. Captioning the video: “This now infamous £200 pork pie is actually made of straw! Because the real giant pies we make fresh to order for our customers with the best British farmed ingredients and to whatever size you want – great value for as many people as you want to cater for..and so delicious that our Steak and Hawkstone Pie is now entered in the most prestigious pie competition in the country – watch this space for results!”

On X someone replied: “Well,it says ‘Made to Order’ which is a clue that it’’s only a display model. Like cake shops have models of special cakes that can be made to order.” An on Instagram one person even commented: “petition for this to be our wedding cake”, while another wrote: “Technically it’s full of straw, grass, weeds, flowers, rain and sunshine”.

Many customers got their hands on the ‘made to order’ pie for the festive season and they had nothing but positive feedback, one wrote: “That pie is absolutely gorgeous! Worth every penny! We ordered one over Xmas and it was an absolute Bobbydazzler!”

While £199.99 for a pie might sound a lot at first people were quick to point out the item was actually very good value for money, one said: “I’ll pay £400” while another said: “Price per kilo is a bargain.”

It comes after the star was forced to issue a warning to those drinking at his new pub earlier this year after thefts left him threatening to close his new venture for good. Writing in The Times, the star revealed that those stealing glasses from the pub are costing him thousands, making it difficult to make a profit.

He said: “The theft, for example, is extraordinary. People seem to have it in their heads that if they come in for a pint they are entitled to go home with the glass in which it was served.

“Last Sunday 104 went missing. And that cost must be added to the £100 a day we spend on fuel for the generator, the £400 a week it costs to provide warmth on the terrace and the £27,000 a month we must spend on parking and traffic marshals to keep the council off our back.”
