Despite having a friendship lasting more than 25 years, Jennifer Aniston was unable to hide her shock this week when she finally learned Reese Witherspoon’s real name.
After a friendship spanning more than 25 years, it’s safe to say that Jennifer Aniston thought she knew her fellow The Morning Show co-star Reese Witherspoon pretty well. Yet even despite the enduring connection the pair have, the former Friends star couldn’t help but be blindsided when Reese revealed her full legal name to her during a recent press interview.
Born Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon, the actress decided to shorten her name when she began to pursue her craft professionally, opting for the moniker that we all know her by today. While many fans may not have realised Reese is actually named Laura, Jennifer was equally shocked to discover this little known fact for herself during LADBible’s Do You Even Know Me? segment amid their promo tour for season four of their hit Apple TV+ series.
The pair, whose friendship dates back to 2000, were asked to answer questions about one another during the tongue-in-cheek dialogue during the tongue-in-cheek segment on Reese’s famous guest appearance on Friends as Jennifer’s on-screen sister.
Witherspoon once asked her co-star about her real name and prompted her to respond, “What is my real middle name?” A: Jane, B: Jean or C: Joan”.
Reese responded, “It’s confusing, but Aniston incorrectly answered Jane.” I’m Laura Jean.
Even with the nonchalant clarification, Aniston quickly realized this new snippet of information was nearly too much for her to handle, as she yelled “Laura Jean”?
Witherspoon then stated, “That’s my real name. Yeah”.
prompting her shocked co-star to say, “Laura! Laura, who is she? What the hell is Laura, exactly? I won’t be calling you that right away! Reese “comes from where?”
Reese simply responded, “It’s my middle name,” for more clarification. Laura Jean Reese, I’m you.
The Sweet Home Alabama actress continued to explain that it wasn’t just a professional change and that she had always used her middle name in her day-to-day life.
Much to the surprise of her co-star, Jennifer also revealed her own full name, Jennifer Joanna Aniston, in the same video.
Reflecting on their 25 years of working together, the pair also examined one another’s knowledge of Friends, the film that propelled Jennifer Aniston into a renown in the 1990s, and gave countless stars, including Witherspoon, a chance to occupy a distinguished position in TV history as memorable guest stars.
Aniston grilled her on-screen sister about how Rachel Green’s inanely ruined a recipe in a particular episode as part of a quick-fire quiz.
In a now iconic moment in television history, Reese was quick to recall how Rachel had accidentally combined mince beef and peas with a recipe for cottage pie and an error that her character had made when two pages of a magazine collided, making her claim that the incident had occurred.
