Being the manager of Tottenham Hotspur hasn’t recently been in line with job security, but Thomas Frank, the new manager, has undone recent history and says he’s there “for the long term.”
Frank joked that he took the job of the Spurs because he had never been fired and that he had “gotten a little bit more risk in his daily life” at his first press conference since joining in June.
Although Frank’s tone was humorous, it is without a doubt that the demands of the position have been challenging over the past four years.
Spurs have had four managers since June 2021, with Antonio Conte, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Ange Postecoglou all having been in charge after winning the Europa League for the first time in two years.
The Dane remarked, “Coming to a big club, there are pressures.” I enjoy my ambitions, and every decision I make is made for the long run. It’s about the long run rather than surviving 18 months.
The 51-year-old described the club’s victory in the Europa League as “extremely positive” and said he wants to win more titles, but his main goal is to make sure Spurs can compete on all fronts.
He claimed that winning the Europa League gave them the fantastic trophy they deserved and needed.
“I want to add more to that. Our first objective is to be able to consistently compete in all four tournaments.
Making the right decision to leave Brentford was “very difficult” but wise.
He claimed that managing Tottenham was a choice he had to make, but that it was a difficult one.
“It was very difficult and also very simple,” Frank said.
“It was very challenging because I’m a person who always puts my best foot forward in relationships, whether it’s at work, with friends, in marriage, or whatever. You become a part of a football club when you work alone. I had a great time there, too.
Son and Romero are “very significant”
However, Frank simply stated that Son and Romero are both “very important” for the club and wouldn’t be drawn into a discussion of what lies ahead for the pair.
Sonny has been a top player for ten years and was finally given his well-deserved trophy in the summer. He claimed that the team and the club are so important.
Romero, the winner of the World Cup, the champion of the Europa League, and the champion of Copa America, is very significant to us as well. Both players have excellent training plans for Saturday. I’m very pleased.
In addition, Frank was secret about Morgan Gibbs-White’s treatment at Tottenham, which has led Nottingham Forest to think about filing a lawsuit against them over breach of a confidentiality agreement in their £60m release contract.
Analysis of Son and Romero: “No definitive answer.”
More important than what Frank actually said, it was about Son and Vice-Captain Romero’s futures.
Both players contributed greatly to Spurs’ euphoric Europa League victory last year, but their futures are uncertain now.
Son, who has a year left on his deal, has been heavily linked to moving to Saudi Arabia, and according to BBC Sport, several MLS teams have expressed interest in the South Korean forward in order to move possible in January.
Romero has been a frequent target for Atletico Madrid, and he is now apparently flirting with the Spanish club once more.
Both of them appear to be leaving before the club’s pre-season tour of southeast Asia, particularly Son, who will be crucial to the club’s business operations given his high-profile status there.
