‘I’ve moved three times with my Amazon devices and swear by the Echo Dot and Pop’

I’ve been using Amazon Echo devices for years, and in that time I’ve built up a lot of variety in my collection. In an old apartment I bought myself the Echo Dot 3rd generation and 4th generation with clock and they still work perfectly, even though I’ve moved them through four different homes.

I use the Echo Dot in my living room and office. It sets timers, plays music and books and lets me know when Amazon deliveries are on the way. The Amazon Echo Dot with Clock is the biggest of my collection and has been a bedroom staple ever since I bought it.

It’s handy that I can see at a glance what time it is, especially when it leads to the discovery I can stay in bed a little longer. I’ve also set a routine so it automatically plays rain sounds at 9pm, exclusively in my bedroom, which I love as background sound when I’m reading.

Since I purchased this Amazon has revamped the clock format to be available with the Echo Spot which has a screen that can show multiple things rather than just the time, and in hindsight is an upgrade from the Echo Dot. It’s £79.99 which is a little more than the Dot and Pop but it does have a screen that the more basic devices don’t.

I moved house earlier this year and suddenly had more rooms that I wasn’t sharing with housemates and a desire to buy a few more Alexa devices. I opted for the new Echo Pop in Lavender Bloom and Midnight Teal, instead of the Glacier White I’d have previously. The pop of colour they give to a room is quite nice and although they’re smaller than the others the speaker faces the room, I find they have great sound quality.

The one in my kitchen is handy for setting reminders and timers while I’m cooking, especially when it’s something that’s going to be in the oven for a while as I can sync the alerts to other spots in the house if I’m not staying in the kitchen.

My favourite feature of all four devices is that I can play something off all four at the same time and it plays in sync. This has been particularly handy when I’m listening to Audible and moving between different rooms as I don’t miss out on any of the plot.

The app is really convenient too, I can add alarms in from anywhere and even switch on music before I step through my front door.

I find Echo devices really convenient to use, all you have to say is Alexa to activate the listening feature and I’ve rarely had issues. I spent a short time in my cousin’s house, who uses Google Nest devices around her house, and found it slightly less convenient as you need to say more to activate listening. Apple also has a HomePod that could work well for fans of Apple Technology, although I’ve personally never used it.
