Few emitted more than Grace Clinton’s brightening smiles after their impressive Women’s Super League win over Tottenham on Friday.

The 22-year-old England international made her debut with a 5-1 victory at Brisbane Road on the bench.

Clinton also assisted Laura Coombs in her injury-time strike, which deflected into the path of her new team-mate.

With England team-mate Jess Park turning the other way on deadline day, she made the perfect start to life at City. She left from Manchester United and joined the team on deadline day.

The Liverpool-born midfielder later described it as “amazing.” It relieves a little pressure, I believe. I can now begin the season.

The key for me was to get in the pitch, make those connections with the girls, and stay put.

“I’m really happy with my debut, and I really enjoyed it out there.”

Clinton claimed on Instagram that she and United “weren’t on the same page” when she switched Manchester clubs shortly before the transfer window closed.

Chelsea goalkeeper Becky Spencer, who collaborated with Clinton at Spurs between her loan years in the 2023-2020 campaign, said, “She looked happy when she came on and looked like she enjoyed the game.”

Clinton undoubtedly gives Andree Jeglertz’s team, who already has a stacked lineup, more depth.

The Swede expressed her happiness for her because she has been doing so well since joining the team and deserved to have some minutes.

“Grace is a great ballplayer, and she is focusing on finding the ball in different spaces and engaging the backline.”

She will need to practice that aspect of our game because she is also working very hard to fit into the group, the team, and how we play.
