Israel deploys tanks as assault on occupied West Bank intensifies

The Israeli military has intensified a monthlong operation that has resulted in the displacement of thousands and the deaths of hundreds of people in the occupied West Bank with additional raids.

Israeli tanks were deployed in the occupied Palestinian territory for the first time in more than 20 years during the raids on Sunday and into Monday.

An extended and broader campaign was suggested by reports that the army is planning to construct military corridors in the West Bank.

As large refugee camps were surrounded by Israeli raids, bulldozers and armored vehicles continued to attack areas across the West Bank.

According to reports, soldiers stormed Jenin from the west, establishing rule over the refugee camp and its environs.

Additionally, they stormed nearby towns al-Yamoun and Burqin, and placed a curfew on the south of the town of Qabatiya for a second day straight.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s armed wing, the al-Quds Brigades, announced on Telegram that they were engaged with Israeli forces in Jenin.

‘ Ominous sign ‘

Hamas, the Palestinian Authority, neighbouring Jordan and the Arab League called on Monday for a halt to the intensifying attacks.

Brazil also urged the Israeli military to completely stop their attacks and allow international assistance to enter the occupied territory.

Because the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority have banned Al Jazeera from Israel and the West Bank, Nour Odeh reported from Amman, Jordan, in a sign of the deployment of tanks.

According to sources close to the prime minister, [Benjamin Netanyahu] claimed that the army plans to construct large corridors in Tulkarem and Jenin to allow for the army’s forces to move freely and with heavy equipment.

Gaza was bounded by the Israeli-established and-occupied Netzarim Corridor, which prevented displaced Palestinians from returning to their homes. A similar strategy in the West Bank, according to some, would serve as an example of a plan to expand and expand the current operation.

Israel’s desire to stay in the West Bank is “an illusion that will not come true,” according to Hamas, which along with the Palestinian Authority condemned Israel for its assaults there.

The Palestinian Authority called for urgent international intervention to “curb Israel’s unchecked aggression” and its effort to continue “genocide” against Palestinians.

The ongoing Israeli operation, which started shortly after the ceasefire in Gaza on January 19, has caused more than 40, 000 people to flee Jenin and Tulkarem, including its Nur Shams refugee camp.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the figure on Sunday, adding that the army will remain in the camps to prevent residents’ return.

Antonio Guterres, the secretary-general of the UN, expressed concern over the Israeli attacks on the West Bank on Monday and issued a warning about a resumption of fighting in Gaza.

He stated that “I am deeply concerned about the calls for annexation and the rising violence by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank.”

Israeli settlers, who are often backed by armed soldiers, carry out daily attacks in the occupied territory.
