Choobiasl had engaged in “sensitive telecommunications projects,” according to Mizan.
According to Mizan, “Mossad’s main objective was to obtain the defendant’s cooperation by obtaining the database of governmental institutions and breaching Iranian data centers,” as well as pursue other secondary objectives, such as investigating the importing of electronic equipment.
The defendant’s appeal was denied, and the death sentence was confirmed, according to the Iranian Supreme Court.
Choobiasl is the second person to be hanged this month after Babak Shahbazi, who was also found guilty of spying for Israel.
After writing a letter to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to offer to fight in Kyiv, activists refuted the claim and claimed Shahbazi was tortured into making a false confession.
Iran has executed numerous people it claims to have links with Mossad and helped it conduct its operations there. Since the June 11th conflict, Iran has reportedly executed ten espionage suspects.
Iranian airstrikes on Israel’s offensive in June included 12 days of airstrikes, some of which targeted Tehran’s top generals and nuclear scientists as well as civilians in residential areas. Iran then retaliated with a barrage of missiles and drones. During the conflict, US airs extensively on Iranian nuclear sites on Israel’s behalf. At least 1,100 people were killed by Israeli attacks on Iran, according to Amnesty International.
Iran has sentenced more people to death in response to the June war and recent protests involving the state of the economy, women’s rights, and some regime-change calls.
More than 1, 000 people were executed in Iran in 2025, according to the Oslo-based organization Iran Human Rights and the Washington, DC-based Abdorrahman Boroumand Center for Human Rights, but Tehran does not yet report every execution.
Iranians are concerned about further economic suffering and a potential resumption of the conflict with Israel in the interim. Iran is once more subject to UN sanctions as the West presses Iran despite Russian and Chinese opposition, after about ten years.
