Fans are eagerly awaited the return of breakout star Aminah Nieves on Paramount Plus and The Paramount Network starting on February 23 for season two of the popular television series 1923. Her character, Teonna Rainwater, escaped from a Catholic boarding school in a gripping storyline.
The Indiana-born actress explained the difficult choice to take on a Hollywood role that would transform her life. In an interview with Deadline, she shared her journey: “I background acted for four or five years. I was working four jobs at once in New York, trying to make rent”, she said.
“I’m also a herbalist, so I had to work there and do my own practice there. I also worked in a clothing store as a doula. But I quit all of those at once because I realized I wasn’t fulfilled.
“I wanted to know how everything worked, so I started background acting not just because I had money.”
“After I saved up money, I quit and moved to my parents ‘ house. I had $21 to my name when I booked 1923”.
Aminah always knew she was destined for the stage, recalling her childhood aspirations: “I did music. I assumed I would be a traveling symphonic musician. And then I was like, psych! I’ll actually attend New York and pursue acting school there.
Off-screen, Aminah offers glimpses into her personal life and various interests on Instagram, sharing moments with her family and pursuing other passions.
She has a close-knit family life that often features on her Instagram, where she shares her love for travel, nature, and health and wellbeing.

She recently revealed how her father was deeply affected by her role in the series, telling The Vulture: “For my dad, it was really, really hard for him to sit in the premiere. I actually had to walk him out during Teonna’s scenes.
He was crying a lot, so we talked about it. He was very triggered. “
Aminah will join big-name actors like Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba in an exciting new Netflix thriller that will take her place beyond the “1923” world.
The film boasts a stellar cast including Jared Harris, Greta Lee, Gabriel Basso, Tracy Letts, and Moses Ingram, and while details are under wraps, it’s known to take place at the White House during a national crisis.
